Top questions
What is CoverHome?
CoverHome is a home search and matching platform for buyers, renters and sellers. You choose the property and location preferences that matter to you, CoverHome puts eligible listings in an order that reflects them, and you can ask to connect with a participating licensed real estate agent.
Is CoverHome a real estate brokerage?
No. CoverHome is a technology platform and is not a real estate brokerage. It does not act as your agent, lender, insurer, inspector, contractor or other professional. The agents and providers you connect with are independent businesses.
How does Household Fit work?
A Household Fit is your saved set of preferences, saved homes and comments. Every account starts with a Household Fit of one adult, whether or not you ever update it. You choose the property and location features that matter to you, such as walkability, low noise, a fenced yard or step-free entry. CoverHome uses only those confirmed preferences to order eligible homes and to explain why a home matches. Every results page has a toggle to switch personalized order off at any time without losing your saved preferences.
Can I invite my partner to a shared search?
Yes. The primary account holder can invite other adults, such as a partner, to a shared saved search from the dashboard. Each invited person must have their own CoverHome account, and chooses whether to opt in to being added to the primary account holder’s household for that search. Household details in a shared search follow the same rule as every search: they never hide a listing or change a price ceiling.
Does my household information affect which homes I see?
No. Household composition, including the number or ages of adults or children, older-adult status and pets, is not used to determine which eligible listings you may see and is not an input to CoverHome’s property-ranking function. CoverHome does not infer a property preference from it.
Can I use my own agent?
Yes. When you ask to connect with an agent you can choose automatic matching, choose from the participating agent pool, or tell us you already have your own agent. You are never required to use an agent recommended through CoverHome.
What are Trusted Pros?
Trusted Pros is a professional advertising and directory product aimed at real estate agents. A listing, paid or free, is advertising. It is not a recommendation, endorsement or referral by CoverHome, and it is not tied to any consumer transaction.
How does CoverHome use my information?
To run your account and search, organize your preferences and saved homes, explain matches, route requests you make to authorized agents and providers, process billing for professional accounts, keep the service secure and improve it. Personalized order uses only property and location preferences you confirm. We do not sell your personal information for money.
About CoverHome
How is CoverHome paid for?
CoverHome is paid for by real estate professionals and vendors, who pay published fees for access to its tools, lead routing and advertising (see the pricing page). You are never required to use a particular agent or provider.
Where is CoverHome available?
Live now in DC, MD, VA and TX. Join the list for your state. The waitlist is also open in 32 countries.
Which homes does CoverHome show?
CoverHome shows eligible listings from its authorized data sources that meet the required filters you set. Personalization changes the order of those homes, not which ones you can see. Private listings activated by a brokerage never appear in public search; they can only appear as a Confidential match (see the agent and tour questions below).
Where does CoverHome get its property information?
Listing information comes from participating brokerages that authorize their data for CoverHome, and from agents and brokers who enter their own listings. Where a listing comes from an MLS source, CoverHome shows the attribution and disclaimers that source requires. CoverHome does not independently verify every listing detail, so please confirm anything important before you decide.
How current is listing information?
Updates follow each data source’s own update schedule. CoverHome does not guarantee that listing data is accurate, complete or current, so verify material details with the listing agent.
Home search and Household Fit
Does CoverHome use protected characteristics to rank homes?
No. CoverHome is designed not to use race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, disability or another protected characteristic, or demographic proxies for them, to rank, filter, recommend or route housing opportunities.
Can personalization remove homes from my results?
No. Personalization only changes the order homes appear in. The only thing that can exclude a listing is a filter you turn on yourself on the results page. A home with fewer bedrooms than you asked for is not hidden.
Can CoverHome raise my maximum price to find more matches?
One of our missions is to help improve homeownership through improving home search. This is why we never show you homes outside of your core set (location and maximum price). We do show homes that are strong matches but still affordable when you follow “more homes to consider”. There you will find homes that might have fewer bedrooms or lower pricing but are within the same location, ranked by how well they fit your Household Fit preferences. We never change your preferred property type for “more homes to consider”.
Why do I see homes that are not a perfect match?
Homes with fewer bedrooms but a strong match are in the “more homes to consider” area of the results page. All your results will always remain within your chosen price and selected location. Within those locations, CoverHome ranks homes by which ones are a stronger match to your location features and property features, while keeping every home in your core set (price and location) available.
What do match scores and “why this home fits” mean?
They show how a property’s disclosed attributes compare with the property and location preferences you selected and confirmed. They are informational. They are not a guarantee of fitness, an appraisal, an inspection or professional advice.
Can I change my preferences later?
Yes. You can update your saved preferences from your account. Changing them changes the order of results, not which eligible homes are available to you.
Are accessibility preferences used to find relevant features?
Yes, if you select them. Features such as step-free entry, wide doorways or a roll-in shower are choices you make yourself. CoverHome does not add or infer them from your age or household. Homes without your chosen accessibility features will still show in your results but will be ranked lower.
Can CoverHome guarantee an accessibility feature on a listing is accurate?
No. Listing details come from the listing sources and are not independently verified by CoverHome. Confirm any feature you rely on with the listing agent and in person. We also ask users to share feedback about the accuracy of listings after every viewing, to help keep agents honest when homes are posted.
Does CoverHome consider commute preferences?
An easy commute is one of the location priorities you can choose to select. Like every preference, it only affects order, and only if you confirm it.
Does CoverHome use neighborhood demographics to recommend homes?
No. CoverHome does not build matching logic around demographic or neighborhood proxies for protected characteristics. School information, where shown, is informational and shows distance only.
Can I save homes and searches?
Yes. You can save favorite homes, hide listings you do not want to see again, and save searches. You can also share your searches with the other adults who make up your household from your dashboard.
Agents and tours
How do I connect with a real estate agent?
From your buy, sell or rent profile, the Connect with an agent step lets you choose who connects with you: automatic, someone from the pool, or your own agent. Agents only receive buy, sell and rent leads in states where they hold a verified license.
What if I do not have an agent yet?
You can let CoverHome connect you automatically with a participating licensed real estate agent in your state, or pick one from the pool yourself.
What is Plan My Tour?
Plan My Tour lets you pick homes from your results, pick times for each home, and choose who shows you the homes. Your area and price range stay fixed from your search. You have three choices: send your homes and times to the agent you already work with; meet an agent from the listing brokerage (the listing agent, or another agent from the listing brokerage, meets you at the home); or connect with an agent through CoverHome, where your request goes to a participating licensed real estate agent in the lead pool, chosen by a neutral round robin among agents licensed in the home’s state. Showings can be requested between 9am and 9pm, local time of the home.
Who receives my tour request?
It depends on the choice you make. If you choose your own agent, the agent you name. If you choose to meet an agent from the listing brokerage, the listing agent where the brokerage allows it and the listing agent is available, otherwise an eligible agent in the listing brokerage’s agent queue (assigned by round robin, or the first eligible agent to accept). If you choose to connect with an agent through CoverHome, one participating licensed real estate agent, chosen by a neutral round robin among agents licensed in the home’s state; if none is available you are told, and your request goes to the listing brokerage only if you choose that. Whether an agent or brokerage has paid CoverHome never changes how your homes are ranked. For a private (Confidential) listing, a tour request goes only to the listing agent or the listing brokerage’s queue, and the brokerage shares the address and details after confirming the tour.
Is CoverHome my agent?
No. CoverHome is a technology platform. A licensed agent or broker you connect with is an independent business and is solely responsible for the professional services they provide.
Will my contact information be shared when I request a tour?
The showing agent sees the home, the time you asked for and the status, not your name, email or phone number. CoverHome keeps your contact details and uses your number only to connect the showing call. Buyer contact details remain within CoverHome and are available only to authorized users. CoverHome does not provide contact exports, bulk downloads, or transfers to external systems. An agent who works for you sees your name and contact details under their Clients only after you sign a buyer agreement with them, their broker verifies it, and you confirm the relationship in CoverHome (you get a notification and an email with a one-tap confirm). Uploading a document never shares anything by itself, and you can end the relationship at any time. If you request a tour without an account, we keep the name, email and phone number you gave us for up to 30 days after the request (or until the tour is over plus 30 days, if confirmed), then delete them automatically.
Will agents see my phone number?
No. The agent sees the home, the time and the status. When it is time for the showing, the agent taps a button and CoverHome calls the agent first and then you, through a CoverHome number, so neither of you sees the other’s number. The call is not recorded.
What am I agreeing to when I request a tour?
You agree that CoverHome may call you at the number you enter to connect you with the showing agent. This is required to send a tour request and does not include marketing. A separate checkbox, not ticked for you, lets you also get text messages about the showing (a confirmation, time changes and, if you miss a call, a private link that works once and expires after two hours). That one is optional and also does not include marketing. If you miss the call, you get a notification in the app and the agent can try once more.
What does a Confidential listing mean?
Some brokerages activate listings for private matching. A matched private home is labeled Confidential and shows its price and CoverHome feature tags. It does not show the address, photos, listing agent or listing brokerage. Only the listing brokerage can show the home, and you may bring your own agent. If you choose Request details, your name, email and message go to that listing’s agent and brokerage so they can follow up with you and offer a showing; if you already work with an agent, they see that agent too. No other agent or brokerage sees them. Tour requests work differently: agents see only the home, the time, the status and the label “Buyer”.
Does CoverHome receive a commission when I buy a home?
CoverHome does not charge you and does not take a percentage of any commission. Participating brokerages pay CoverHome flat technology fees, which gives CoverHome a financial interest in transactions involving those brokerages. A marketplace or fee relationship never changes which homes you see, their order, or which agent you choose.
Trusted Pros and referrals
What kinds of professionals can I ask for help through CoverHome?
You can ask CoverHome to refer a request to participating household-service providers in categories such as insurance, aging and senior care, family and financial services, and pet care. In your Move Plan you can also ask for movers, storage, cleaning, utility setup and similar help.
Does CoverHome automatically send my information to vendors?
No. CoverHome shares a request with a provider only when you submit that request, and the screen tells you what is being shared before you submit. Saving a Move Plan entry is not a request.
What does a vendor receive when I request help?
The service category you chose, a short note only if you write one, and your contact details only if you explicitly opt in on that request. Providers do not receive your structured household composition.
Can I request a vendor without involving my agent?
Yes. Your agent or brokerage is not notified of your request unless you choose to include them. Brokerages see only monthly totals of requests, not who asked.
Does CoverHome recommend one vendor over another?
No. Participating providers are independent businesses that pay a subscription or listing fee. Paid Featured placements are labeled, and a vendor’s business listing is advertising, not a recommendation or endorsement.
Does CoverHome guarantee a vendor’s work or verify licenses and insurance?
No guarantee. Providers are independent, are not CoverHome employees, and are responsible for their own quotes, contracts, work and charges. CoverHome approves providers before they receive requests using a point-in-time eligibility review. That review is not an endorsement and does not guarantee a provider’s work, licensing status, insurance coverage or suitability.
Am I required to use a Trusted Pro or vendor?
No. You are free to choose any professional or provider, including one outside CoverHome. Whether a provider participates never changes which homes you see, their order or which real estate agent you choose.
How do I report a problem with a vendor?
Email hello@coverhome.app with the subject line “Vendor Concern”. CoverHome may suspend or end a vendor’s access for inaccurate information, loss of required credentials or insurance, misuse of consumer information or other violations.
Privacy and account
What information does CoverHome collect about me?
Account details, optional household context, your budget and location and feature preferences, saved searches and favorites, messages and requests you send, and device and usage data such as IP address and pages viewed. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.
Why does CoverHome ask about my household?
It is always optional. Household details help organize your preferences, saved homes and match explanations and, only when you ask, support referrals to separate household services. They never hide a listing, change a price ceiling or change your results order. However, a Household Fit that is connected to a shared search requires each participant in the search to have their own account and Household Fit settings.
Who can see my household information?
Household information is not shown to other consumers, public listing pages, search engines, sellers or listing sources. Our access and authorization controls are designed to prevent unauthorized access. We do not disclose your household composition to an agent or brokerage by default.
Is my information sold?
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some state privacy laws define sale or sharing more broadly, and where they apply you can use the choices described in the Privacy Policy.
How do I access, correct or delete my information?
You can do it yourself from your account. Update your profile, preferences and saved searches from your dashboard, pause your account, or delete it in the app or at coverhome.app/delete-account. If you want a copy of your information or need help, email hello@coverhome.app with the subject line “Privacy Request” and tell us the account email and what you need.
How long does CoverHome keep my information?
Account, profile, saved-search and Household Fit data are kept while your account is active. Other records, such as support, billing and tax, and security logs, are kept as needed for their purpose or as the law requires. If you ask for details on a private listing, your name, email and message are kept while that inquiry is open and are deleted 30 days after the inquiry is closed. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Does CoverHome use automated scoring, and does it make housing decisions for me?
CoverHome uses automated rules and scoring to organize eligible listings by the preferences you confirm. It does not decide anything for you. Match order is informational, you can switch it off, and you make every housing decision.
How does CoverHome guard against discriminatory recommendations?
The inputs the ranking function is designed to read are limited to the property and location preferences you confirm. Agent-suggested homes are separately identified and do not change the automated ranking.
How can I report a privacy, Fair Housing or data concern?
Email hello@coverhome.app with the subject line “Privacy Request”, “Fair Housing Concern” or “Security Report”. You can also file a housing-discrimination complaint directly with HUD.
